Common questions

How do I restore Premium on a new phone or tablet?

Sign in with the same Pass New York account you used before, then open Settings and tap Restore purchase. You can also tap Restore purchase at the bottom of the Unlock Premium screen. The device must be signed in to the same Apple Account or Google account that made the purchase. If Premium is still locked, email us your sign-in email, where you bought it and the receipt or order number.

I bought Premium, but subjects are still locked.

Check that you are signed in to the account you bought Premium on, then open Settings and tap Restore purchase. If that does not unlock it, log out, sign back in and restore again. Still locked? Email us your sign-in email and the receipt or order number from Apple or Google, and we will sort it out.

The Unlock Premium screen does not show a price.

The price comes from the App Store or Google Play, so it needs a connection. Check you are online, tap Try again, or close and reopen the app. Make sure the device is signed in to the App Store or Google Play and that in-app purchases are allowed. If the price still does not load, email us your device, system version and country.

Is Premium a subscription?

No. Premium is a one-time purchase ($59.99 in the US; the store shows the price in your local currency). It never renews, so there is nothing to cancel.

What can I use for free?

Guests and free accounts get the same free tier: the study guides for License Law, Agency and Legal Issues; unlimited License Law practice; flashcards from those three subjects, 20 cards a session; all the Key Terms; search, with answers shown for License Law questions; one 30-question diagnostic across every subject; and Math Coach worked problems and hints, with two answer checks per topic. Notes, bookmarks, missed-question review, your readiness and progress, and streaks are free too, and so is sync once you create an account. Free access does not expire. Premium opens all 19 study guides, practice and flashcards in every subject (with 30- and 50-card sessions), timed practice exams, unlimited Math Coach checks with the math exam and stats, diagnostic retakes, and search answers in every subject.

Do I need an account?

No. Tap Continue as guest to study without one. Guest progress stays on that device only. Create an account, or sign in with Apple or Google, to sync your progress across devices and to buy or restore Premium.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and follow the email we send. Check your spam folder if it does not arrive within a few minutes. If you originally signed up with Apple or Google, use that button again instead: a new email account will not have your progress or your purchase.

Sign in with Apple is not working.

Make sure the device is signed in to iCloud (Settings, then your name at the top) and that two-factor authentication is on for your Apple Account. Closing the Apple sheet returns you to the sign-in screen, so try again from there. If it keeps failing, email us your device model, iOS version and what you see.

My progress is not syncing between devices.

Both devices need to be signed in to the same account and online. Open the app on the device you studied on so it can upload, then open it on the other one. Settings shows the sync status under Sync. Guest progress does not sync, so create an account first. Please do not use Reset all progress to fix a sync problem; email us your sign-in email and which devices you use.

I am not getting daily study reminders.

In the app, open Settings, turn on Daily reminder and choose a Reminder time. Then check your phone's notification settings for Pass New York and make sure notifications are allowed. If you turned them off at the system level, turn them back on there, then switch Daily reminder off and on again in the app.

Can I study on a computer?

Yes, in two ways. The browser study app at app.passnewyorkrealestate.com/login is the app in a browser: sign in with the same account you use on your phone and your progress and Premium carry across. The free practice questions and study guides on this website also work in any browser with no account, but that website progress stays in that browser and does not sync with the app.

How do refunds work?

The store that took your payment handles the refund. For the App Store, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google Play, open your order history in the Play Store and choose Request a refund. Purchases in the browser study app are sold by Paddle, our merchant of record: use the link in your Paddle receipt or visit paddle.net. See our refund page for details, and email us if you get stuck. New York Department of State license and exam fees are paid to the state and are separate.

How do I delete my account and data?

In the app, open Settings and scroll to Danger zone, then tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and its cloud data: study history, notes and saved questions. You may be asked to sign in again first. If you cannot get into the app, email us from the address on the account and we will delete it within one business day. To clear your study history but keep the account, use Reset all progress in the same section.

I found a mistake in a question.

After you answer, tap Report under the question and choose what looks wrong. Reports come straight to us with the question attached, and we check every one against current New York law.

The app crashes or freezes.

Close the app completely and reopen it, check the App Store or Google Play for an update, and restart the device. If you reinstall, sign in first: a signed-in account keeps its progress, but guest progress is deleted with the app. If it keeps happening, email us your device, system version, app version and what you were doing when it failed.
