A practical study routine
Turn a wrong answer into a better next session.
Work in a short loop: identify the gap, learn the rule, retrieve it and apply it again. Pass New York is independent exam preparation. It does not replace the required 77-hour approved qualifying course or the state examination.
Step 1
Find your starting point
Take the free 19-question website sampler. Choose confidence before answering. A high-confidence mistake deserves attention because the rule felt familiar but was misapplied. One question per subject is a starting map, not proof of mastery.
Take the samplerStep 2
Learn the controlling rule
Open the guide for a missed subject. Read the rule and example, then close the explanation and answer the retrieval prompt. Separate who is represented, what document does what, and which state or local rule applies.
Read the subject guidesStep 3
Practice more than recognition
Explain why the selected answer fits and why the alternatives fail. Use flashcards for recall and questions for application. Change the facts in an example and ask whether the conclusion changes too.

Make the math setup visible
Write the unknown and its unit. Label the whole, percentage, time period and tax component. Try mixed math before looking at a formula. If you need a hint, use it, then return to the same relationship later without help.
Practice mixed mathStep 5
Add the clock after review
Choose a quiet block for the 90-minute simulation. Flag uncertain items, review unanswered questions and finish before the clock expires. Use the results to identify weak rules and pacing problems, not to claim a predicted state-exam score.
Try timed practiceStep 6
Return to the rules you missed
Choose a study plan that fits your available days. Keep reviewing all 19 subjects rather than abandoning smaller course subjects. Course hours describe the qualifying curriculum, not official exam percentages.
